Kaizen Sushi (Waterfront)

Kaizen Sushi is one of the first few restaurants i’ve been in Brunei. And have been going back again and again since. It is set against the panoramic view of the waterfront Promenade, Brunei River. And if you are there for dinner, you might witness a fantastic ‘show’ by the boatman zooming away with their sampang decorated with colorful lights if you’re lucky. Decor of the restaurant followed a traditional Japanese theme, mainly uses natural materials and earth colours, yet achieving a sleek and modern feel to it. Kaizen is split into four main sitting areas – a Teppanyaki bar, a sushi bar, four private rooms and a large area encompassing a combination of tatami seating tables and regular seating tables. The biggest private room can hold up to 8-10 adults.

They have a wide variety of choices, from the traditional Japanese cuisine to creative dishes like Kyuri Spicy Maguro Sushi (spicy minced raw fish in a sweet tofu pouch). The Gunkan Maki is one of favourite section on the menu. And it’s repeatedly ordered on my every visit there.

Service here has been good so far. Staffs were courteous and prompt. Price wise, Kaizen is definitely not the cheapest Japanese restaurant in town. A meal for three hungry adults came up to around $80 odd for us. But for the ambiance, service and variety of food choices, it’s all worth it to pamper ourselves every once in a while.
