Time for a movie
Movie is one great pass time here in Brunei. Other than the supermarkets, cinemas are the next most patronised places for me.
There are currently four cinemas to choose from – Times Cineplex, The Mall Cineplex, The Seri Qlap Mall Cineplex and M-Vision Cinemas at The Empire Hotel and Country Club. Times Cineplex being the newest, opened only first quarter 2013. Tickets were all booked few weeks after the opening. Most of the movies here are screened no more than two weeks in a row. That could be the reason why people flocked to premiere screenings and the launch of every movie, and especially so for blockbuster. Some movies can be up for as short as only a week. So if you missed any of the movies, online may provide you with better luck.
The ticket prices for movies here are totally awesome. It can be as low as B$4 on a weekday before 630 pm. And no more than B$7 for peak period over the weekends after 630 pm. Prices for popcorn and drinks are very reasonable too.
All four cinemas offer advance booking of tickets by phone. No advance payment or booking fee is required. However, you will need to pick up your tickets an hour before the movie, or one day before the showtime if it’s a blockbuster. Tickets not collected on time will be release at the counter.
The newly opened Times Cineplex is normally swamped with people in the evening and especially weekends. There are a total of six screens, all equipped with seats that has got a flexible pliable backrest which can accommodate to every individual’s size and posture. Every row of seats are spaced out with adequate amount of leg room as compared to some of the cinemas here. With that, they get an extra vote from me 🙂 It was a little difficult to find the way to the cinema when it was first opened. There isn’t any direct escalator/lift to the cinema from the center part of the building. The escalator/lift leading to the cinema is on the side of the building facing City Square. But you will have to out of the building in order to access the way up.
Ticket prices range from B$4 – B$7 and B$7 to B$10 for standard tickets and 3D tickets respectively.

M-Vision Cinemas at The Empire Hotel and Country Club
M-VISION Cinemas is the first Cineplex ever to be implemented in Brunei. There are a total of three screens in the prestigious vicinity of The Empire Hotel and Country Club. Providing a great alternative for those who prefer to stay away from town and the heavy crowd. Another plus point would be finding a place to park should never impose as a problem for all customers. However, their website doesn’t seem very updated too, so it’s better to call them up to check on the movies available.
